Avatar: The Last Airbender

It would come as no surprise that I’m, indeed, a big fan of Avatar: The Last Airbender; the impresive animation series by Nickelodeon.

It may come as a surprise to you, though, that this incredible series will be translated to a live-action movie. Here’s a the first teaser for you to see:

I admit it, it doesn’t show much but, to me, it shows a lot. Why? Well, first of all I can see the kid playing Anng is, indeed, pretty good with the martial arts movements (or at least his double, I don’t know).Second, It shows a really well made visual style. Something I definitely think is pretty important. And not less important, it shows some pretty good CGI.

And for all of this I couldn’t be happier.

Now, After some invertigation, I found there’s some furor around the cast being all white… I do agree it is not just stupid but even offensive to have all white kids playing the parts of an overtly multicultural cast, a cast with no white people in it to boot.

And, while I adhere to this inconformity, I would’t go as far as to say I wouldn’t watch the movie if this is not fixed… I do certainly know this movie will be good. How do I know this? Just look at the director’s curriculum. you won’t be disappointed.

I can’t believe I only now find out about this, I need to keep more in touch with news.

Reality is too Much for Me, Please Censor it!

child prostitute by *cellar-fcp on deviantART

This magnificent, awareness rising, piece of art was published in Deviant Art (an enormous and really useful art social network) just a few hours ago and, unfortunately, it’ll most likely be taken down in no more than a few hours due to violation of the terms of service.

This illustration is the work of cellar-fcp in his “Prostitute Series” to be part of a book called 鶯~EROTICA.

This piece is recieving the community’s support, but some people among us don’t see this picture the way we do. Some people seem to think this is a tasteless piece of art, a waste of the artists’ talent and, more importantly, a subject to be repoted and taken down from the site.

It is a disgrace to see people not being able to overlook their prejudice of underage nudity when it is appropriate. Yes, the reality behind it is a disgusting one; it is a sad picture and it has a dark beauty, You can see in those girls’ eyes, way beyond their nude or semi nude bodies, the sadness and despair of their situation. You can also, if open enough, see the human behind the prostitute that is portrayed.

It is an important message, but there’s people who would rather blind themselves to this reality and shield themselves claiming the picture is “tasteless” and “pornographic”.

If you can take it, I invite you to watch more of the work of this incredible artist at his gallery, and some little information on the book.

Important edit: Be it clear that I do not blame Deviant Art for taking down the picture, They have to do it because of the lawsbinding them.  I am disgusted at the people who see the piece as pornographic.

What about you? can you see the message? or is reality too much for you to bear?

Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles. Beautiful, Beautiful Rail Roading

Remember those old rail shooters like House of the Dead and Time Crisis?

Something I always found annoying about those games was the fact that it never really felt as though the camera movement resembeled the actual walking of a character. Rather, it felt like being on top of a dolly.

Time, and in this case Capcom, reinvents things and makes what’s old and overdone feel new and exiting:

Not only is this a beautiful example of immersing, dramatic camera use, the graphics are gorgeous. Specially for the Nintendo Wii.

I really can’t wait to play this game. What about you?

Zombie… Sorry… Swine Flu Outbreak in Mexico

Me, running from the flu zombies!
Me, running from the flu zombies!

I tend to be a little paranoiac when it comes to illness… With the current outbreak (while not jet enough to call it an epidemic) of Swine Flu in Mexico, I’m on the edge of my nerve.

Just yesterday school activity was canceled in Mexico City and, today, public government activities have been also canceled.

One of the most important advice given these days in Mexico, by news networks and pamphlets, is not to shake hands. Call me crazy but, if giving hand shakes is deemed risky, this must be one hell of a pandemic!

While it’s been reported there have been only 20 death out of the more than 1000 cases, I still can’t stop thinking zombies will crawl up my window while I’m asleep to cough over me and shake my hand!

I’m certainly not leaving home without a shotgun!

Do you recall the Picture Diaries from Japan?

Well, I’ve been meaning to do somehting like that for a while. A little picture followed by a description… much like a one-panel web comic, mind you.

For today’s entry… me, having the idea of doing this and the world reacting with confussion and embarasment… So yeah, there you are. I’ll try to make this updates more interesting… or I may not, you never know, I’m a busy guy working at FABLE Story Studios.

Then again… I could use the tablet practice.

Some Style for my XP Desktop, Please?

I really never leave my desktop the way it is when I get a computer. I always look for ways to tweak, improve and stylize it.

This is the current state of the desktop of my Laptop.

Does getting this comic make me a nerd?

 There’s a really cool and funny web-comic named xkcd.com

It treats math, literature and other intelectual topics with a well thought humor.

There is a specific one I’ve been telling to people and nobody seems to get it but me.  So… Am I a nerd?

Correlation

My guess… Maybe.

You get it!? >.<

United by the crisis

If there is something drawing the world together nowadays it is the world wide economic crisis.

But, do most of us actually understand what’s bsehind this?

Jonathan  Jarvis has explained today’s crisis in the best way posible. With an elegand and comprehensive animation:

The Crisis of Credit Visualized from Jonathan Jarvis on Vimeo.

Sometimes graphic enhancers can really make a message all the clearer.

Did you already know what the crisis was all about?

Oh’ bah’ mah’ self

English is a funny language indeed. As a Mexican, I found it rather strange to learn a language in which the letters had such varied pronunciations depending on the word’s origin.

There’s an animation that’s been seen a lot lately, Obama’s Elf, that I think makes my point really clear:

Really, it’s just to funny for words… Really interesting to witness how a phrase like “All by myself” can become something so funny as “Obama’s elf” with just a weird pronunciation.

This phrase wouldn’t have such an impact if not for the animation acompaning it, of course, This short animation has given me a good laugh indeed.
